We are now well into our Autumn programme of events at the Siabod & it is hard to believe that Corin’s presentation this Saturday is almost upon us. Before going further a quick thank you once again to Mike for putting on such a great Quiz Night we are still receiving comments of appreciation & questions of when the next Quiz will be, soon we promise, so keep an eye on the events page & this blog. Now back to Corin’s Presentation on the 30th November. Corin Hardcastle approached me after being recommended as a possible venue by Cotswold Outdoor.

Well our Inaugural Quiz Night is almost here but before I go into detail I must express a big thank you to Mike Lees for all the effort he has put in. As well as putting the Quiz together Mike has played a great hand in procuring Donated prizes from Anglesey Outdoor, Joe Brown & even his local Tory MP, great job Mike! Now onto the specifics. Quiz starts at 19:30 so if you want food in advance we suggest you get here by 18:00/18:30 to give us time to clear plates to give you sufficient room to bang your

True Autumn has finally arrived but there is no need to feel down as a series of events are coming & going to lift the spirits. Last Saturday saw the 31st running of the Snowdon Marathon, having pulled out of it last year due to Nepal & then forgotten to enter this year I decided to trot down to Pen y Gwryd (well in that headwind it was the best I could manage) to join a large crowd ready to cheer the runners on. I won’t go into any more details here but simply a great effort by all the

Seems like a Blink of an Eye & the weekend has passed. Almost got myself into trouble after going out for a run on an extremely mild Saturday morning, Georg & I went out to watch a leg of the Cambrian Rally late afternoon. We found a great bend to watch some wheel spins & mud only to gradually realise that the stage would last far longer than we expected & that we had walked into an area where the only way out was back down the forest track the cars were hurtling up. The problem being of course that

Before I go any further let me just clarify that the Cafe will be closing at 18:00 this Saturday for our ‘normal’ custom in order for us to be able to start receiving & serving those coming along for Nick’s Presentation, we hope this causes no inconvenience & that you’ll understand our reasoning. Well what a weekend it looks like being in Snowdonia, Nick & I couldn’t have planned it better if we’d planned it ourselves, fortunately for us we have been Soldiers of fortune. What am I talking about now you may ask? Well put simply & by pure

Well that’s it! it’s come and gone & all that remains to be done is to share a few details with you, but before I do a few thanks are in order. Gaby, for you to allow me to set off to London with the support in tow of Dorina just days after our returning from Italy & on a weekend that promised to be busy due to the combination of our Music Night & the Snowman Triathlon says all that needs to be said about you! My thanks & appreciation are heartfelt. Dorina, as ever your ability to put

Thanks to all those who have contributed to my chosen charity ‘Gets Kids Going’, greatly appreciated, I passed my target late yesterday so a great way to set me on my way as Dorina & I travel to London later today. Holiday in the Alps & Italy (thankfully the house was not too badly damaged during a recent break-in) now over I confirm that I have been a good boy & ran over 50 miles whilst out there to give my goal of a sub 1:30 tomorrow at least a small chance of success. In reality I should be pleased

My apologies for my silence on this great race since the day itself, you will be forgiven for assuming I had a disastrous race & have been hiding beneath a stone ever since. The reality is a little different, for one thing my silence was dictated by a crashing of my computer the day after the race & it being out of action until after my return from Italy earlier this week. Thanks to both Michael & Georg for trying to remedy the computer, left to me it would be swimming with the fishes by now. Not fully restored it

Just in case there is anyone out there who is not aware Wednesday 18th September will see cycling’s Tour of Britain fly past Capel Curig at circa 3:15 p.m. I believe a rolling road block will be in place so if you want a great view point of the riders speeding down the straight aim to get to the Café before the road block, park up & secure a picnic table place with a cup of coffee to hand. Hopefully the weather will bless the riders who include Sir Bradley Wiggins & my personal cycling idol Mark Cavendish who is

The line up is now in place for what will be our 5th Music night of the year, sadly I will have to miss it due to my annual fund raising Half Marathon in London that kicks off at 09:00 a.m. the next day. Music Nights & hopeful p.b.’s do not fit well together. To those of you who plan things better than I simply click onto our events page for full details of the line up & timings etc. My thanks to Mark Hedge as ever for bringing things together, hope you have a great time.

On Tuesday just 3 days after our Recce of the 2nd half of the race route Kean strolled into the Café early doors & ordered his staple breakfast of Porridge. The weather was along the lines of ‘do we really want to go out in that’ but we both knew it would do us good to knuckle down & carry out our plan of recceing the first half of the route. An hour later we were parked up at Pen y Pass & making a hash of reading the bus timetable in a way that only two middle aged men

Having confirmed to Mike Blake a little over a week ago that I’d prefer to run this gruelling race rather than Marshall I submitted my entry form last Monday & began to focus on training. Having not run for more than a week my main concern was how would my battered ankle hold up & if it didn’t how long would the healing process be? I’m relieved to say that 5 runs in a week & 50 miles later it is clear that what ever I’ve done to it (it is still too painful to touch as Dorina can testify

It is the best part of 3 years since Fraser first sowed the seeds into my head of completing this Challenge & last week I finally re-paid the favour I’ve owed him for over 2 years now. The history behind it is basically this:- The idea of attempting this Challenge had been fermenting in Fraser’s mind for many years so in Winter 2010/11 he circled an e-mail to a wide selection of friends to tout interest for a group assault on it for Summer 2011. There were several expressions of interest including from Myself but as the first training days
