Our thanks to John & Marian of Chasing the Light for putting together a great night in support of Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue. A great turn out filled the room so thanks to all of you who came along. The evening was started off by John who surprised Paul a framed print of his Mera Peak Summitting before an interesting talk got underway together with Audio Visuals covering subjects as varied as Mont Blanc & a Farmer’s year in Snowdonia, excellent. John was more than ably supported by Sarah Ridgeway of RunSnowdonia fame who showed results with her head camera

Where have recent weeks gone, feel like I’m in the heart of racing season now with two big races out of the way & two harder ones just around the corner. I’ll start with the ones under my belt. 3 weeks ago the snow finally left the Moelwyn summits literally a day or so before the Moelwyn Race & we awoke on race day to near perfect conditions, wall to wall (or should that be mountain to mountain) sunshine & a stiff breeze that seemed to relent quiet early into the race. At the start a quick chat with Mike

My apologies but what with races, ML Assessment prep & a seemingly constant spinning head I am posting this blog a little late but better late than never & hopefully many of you are already aware of it’s subject. This Friday, yes 3rd May, we are delighted to welcome John Rowell of Chasing the Light to the cafe for what will be an extremely interesting & instructive evening discussing both Photographic Skills to capture the wonders of Snowdonia as well as ideas on how once captured we can enhance our enjoyment of these photographs for years to come. John will

Looking ahead to next Sunday’s event starting from Llanwrst at 12:00. I think last Saturday’s Moelwyn Race has done me good, although the 1:7 hill coming up from Trefriw is, to be fair, playing on my mind. I was hoping to stand out from the crowd by running in a Cotswold Oudoor T shirt in order to pay them back for recent support over Nepal & our subsequent Presentation Evening but alas have left it too late so they’ll just have to cheer me on screaming he bought that, that & that from us you know! Well this felt like the start of the season for me, a little later than for some I’m sure & in reality my third race this year but the first of the ones I find a real test of stamina both physically & mentally. What a day we were blessed with, wall to wall sunshine & a cool breeze to take the edge of any potential heat, I even took a momentary glymse right as I crossed Craigysgafn to take in the views of The Horseshoe & The Glyders, little would the crowds on them know what we were up

Mountains arn’t just about charging up & across them or taking time to admire fabulous vista’s in varying shades of light, as anyone who has taken steps towards an ML or similar qualification will know there are some hidden treasures if we at least occasionally slow down or stop to look more closely around our feet for more than just a secure footing. The combination of a day spent with Jim Langley of Nature’s Work & my ML Course training course with Rob Johnson as well as using my own gardening knowledge (I used to find time for that in

Well where have the first three month’s of the year gone, I feel like I am in a complete spin & to cap that Dorina & I will be moving back to my old house near Dolgellau next week. Despite a year of stability by living above the cafe it’ll be our seventh move in the last 2 years & hopefully the last for quite a while! Despite everything I have somehow muddled together an agenda of Outdoor goals this year & will aim to update you on my preparation & progress on each one as the month’s slip by.

I Blinked, a few too many glasses of wine & it was gone! What a great night though starting off with Michael’s laid back intro. on Flamenco Guitar, apparently he was to be heard serenading Gaby until 3:00 a.m. without success, lucky escape that! Then came Dylan & the guys to up the tempo with the cafe soon filling to a capacity crowd of approx. 80 enthusiasts. Well done guys. Next up were the headling act, The Storyville Mob, great music & a great thank you to Mark who not only organised the event but pulled the evening together &

Well it’s been a while since I’ve given an update on what I’ve been upto on the Welsh Hills, in truth not a lot compared to the standards of recent years but that is in part at least due to the seemingly continuos Wind & rain at the start of the year, I do not like being blown over on summits!
