My thanks to Janine for pointing out the date listed for the above on our events page & ringing a few alarm bells. It had read 24th June & not the 14th. Please note that it is indeed Saturday 14th, looking forward to their first appearance in Capel at the Siabod.

This might go on a bit but it is after all one of the 2 key races that make up my summer. With a feeling that this great race was suddenly upon me & that I had failed to get enough serious hill work in things suddenly took a turn for the better the Sunday before last. Kean & Sandra walked into the Cafe to join me & my hangover (a long story involving our sell out Quiz night (well done Mike Lees, great job yet again), wine with friends & a knock on the window by Michael at 02:30

Well the Keswick Mountain Festival has been & gone but was very enjoyable & once again spent in the great company of Fraser. Without the pressure of our own Presentation this year we could enjoy attending a couple of Presentations in the main Lakeland Theatre. The first was a Q & A session with Joss Naylor hosted by Claire Mixsted of Trail Running Magazine, Joss was accompanied by fellow Fell legend Kenny Stewart & it made for a fascinating insight into how they set records that are still un-beaten several decades on. On Friday we tackled 8 summits on &

After a 5 day lay-off I was more than a little bit relieved to get out for an un-troubled 12 miler at the start of the Bank Holiday weekend. Nervous wasn’t the word as I deliberately kept close to the Cafe using a 6K loop to test the calf & give me bail out options should they be needed, thankfully they weren’t. This was followed up with a six miler on the Sunday & 14 miler on Monday. All trouble free but a visit to Iain Lea’s clinic on Friday reminded me that I am going to have to manage

With April let alone March now behind us time for a little update on how things are going on the running front & my preparation for an important June. I have continued to clock up the miles more than ever (well by my standards you understand) but I did suffer a setback during the latest trip to Italy. Again this was not a glamorous one as I was there simply to carry out a number of repairs & decorations in the hope that the house will sell (don’t want to sell it but that is a long, long story that

Thanks to Sandra Rowlands for correcting me, the race starts at 14:00 with events on the field starting at 1:00pm, although she could have done so by e-mail rather than call into the Cafe with that over-syching husband of hers, really did I have to hear about that pb of his from many moons ago. Only joking Kean & thanks for your help over in Italy even if that rear room should have been done in UK Sky blue & not the Mediterranean one. Well it doesn’t seem like 3 years ago that I discovered this gem of a race

We are delighted to be hosting the above Film Presentation in association with the National Trust for Snowdonia. Our thanks to Simon Rogerds of the National Trust for selecting our Cafe as a venue. The film ‘Project Wild Thing’ is a feature length documentary about children’s diminishing contact with nature & how we can help to break down the barriers between them & that great outdoors. It should be extremely thought provoking so whether you are a Parent, Child, Outdoor Instructor or someone like me who simply enjoys an Outdoor Lifestyle & wants to open others up to the enjoyment

We apologise for the short notice but this Saturday we will be closing our doors at 18:00 & not the normal 20:00. It is in a good cause though as we will be welcoming members of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team & their partners for their AGM. We hope you’ll understand & promise to make up for it on the following two Saturday’s where extended opening & live music will go hand in hand.

March! What happened to January & February? Two more races under my belt so far this year. The first was Tarren Hendre which I entered for the first time. Sadly due to an horrendous forecast the route was changed to keep us well away from the exposed summit, clearly the organiser’s were as disappointed as the runners at this decision but that didn’t stop 49 of us from giving it a go & experiencing a harder & longer climb than I’d imagined on the forest track. 17th place was pretty pleasing & made all the more so by a certain

Just a quick word of thanks to Ken for a very enjoyable & instructive evening at the Cafe the Saturday before last. I have subsequently read his book much of which he had managed to convey to his audience during the presentation, his recollections on the night were amazingly precise & clearly helped such a flowing delivery. It has certainly made me appreciate the enormity of the challenge he & Wayne took on & accomplished. Now I must consider is it really one for me & Fraser, if it is I can see many navigational focused prep days in the

Gaby, Dorina & I are delighted to have allocated a part of our former storage area to the ‘Soul of Snowdonia’ Gallery & help bring their stunning photography to a wider audience. They have a wide variety of work on display

The good news is that we have now just reserved our 60th ticket for Ken’s presentation tomorrow night. The Bad news is that only gives us 10 more tickets until we are more or less fully booked so if you are thinking of coming please phone us to reserve tickets rather than simply turning up on the night, we want to avoid turning people away if at all possible. Had an enjoyable walk with Ken & John Rowell on Tuesday, managed to glean a little information from Ken about his presentation, it will be great to listen to the full
