The absent runner returned on Sunday after 8 days without a run, due to some serious storms in Italy, didn’t it feel great to be running in warm sunshine up & down the Ogwen Valley underneath the snow capped mountains. Legs felt fully recovered from the race exertions of January so that’s it Moel y Ci this Saturday here I come. Anyone wanting to experience their first fell race they could do far worse than picking this one, but as I found out 3 years ago don’t let the relative low stats for mileage & height gain lull you into a false sense of security, it remains my closest thing ever to a DNF!
The fantastic weather which arrived in my abscence is still with us, looks like there could be yet another cloud inversion today, there will definitely be another run on the cards this afternoon. Well, after over 60 hours of driving including a 17 hour epic last Thursday I think I deserve some more ‘me’ time, Dorina as ever encourages this. The week after next we will have some ‘we’ time Skiing, our thanks to Steve & Judith for their kindness.
With the ‘problem’ now solved I can look ahead to a year of exciting challenges the highlights of which are:-
April – Moelwyn Race
May – Keswick Mountain Festival with Fraser including the Half Marathon
June – Welsh 1,000 metre race, going for 3rd win before next year stepping up to the Fell Race
June – Coed y Brenin Half Marathon
July – Siabod Fell Race (won’t be running)
July – The Alps, The Monch, Jungfra… with Tim Blakemore
August – Oggie 8, can team Siabod defend our title
September – Peris Horseshoe
September – World Mountain Running Championships come to Betws including a special mid-week Siabod Fell Race.
October – Holiday, who knows where.
October – Snowdon Marathon
There will be other races but amongst this lot will I fit in another Welsh 3,000′, a first West Highland Way in 2 days or a first attempt at a paddy, two out of three would keep me happy.
At the Cafe we are delighted to be so busy at this time of year so thanks to all of you for your support. We have an exciting programme of events so keep an eye on our events page for details.
Finally I am still looking for that flat Marathon just point me in the right direction.
