Some of you maybe aware that Fraser & I are planning to do an evening presentation at the cafe covering our trek to Nepal. It is planned to be a relaxed evening in which we will aim to cover everything from our preparation, kit & experiences throughout the trek in the hope that it will be of interest to you. It hopefully will be of informative & interesting to anyone contemplating their first trek but experienced trekkers will hopefully be also interested in this particular trek which covered the two summits of Mera & Island Peak as well as the

Hope you are having a great time despite the less than perfect weather, we re-opened this morning after a bit of a lie in & with the help of our good friends Rob & Julie who are helping to cover for staff holiday’s so a big thank you to them. As the doors opened at 10:00 with no customers queing we thought we had wasted their time but to our relief customers soon began arriving & as Paul got distracted as usual by the likes of Alice & Bob their help was more than needed. We will be open today

It was good to see so many cyclists from The Rhos-on-Sea club braving the weather on Sunday & calling in for Coffees, Teas & Cakes. The pre-booked event allowed us to reserve the Sofa’s & make an even larger range of cakes to whet their appetites. Our thanks to Justin for choosing us as a venue, apologies from Paul for not getting back to see you all, his fun run overan! Love & Best Wishes to you all Dorina & Gaby xx

News from the summits is that despite warmer temperatures & a good deal of rain there is still plenty of snow around above 2,500′. On Saturday my mate Chris & I were on Snowdon’s Pyg track & had Crampons on by the time we reached the Miner’s Track junction. Although it had softened to allow some kicking in the odd idiot taking on the top of the Zig-Zags without the right kit was really struggling, do they understand one slip is all it takes? Anyway we had a great time & headed out once again yesterday onto the Carneddau. Falling

She has two turkey special options as well as Mince Tarts & Pies in addition to her normal wide range of Cakes & Puddings. Well where do I begin? Having got back 2 weeks ago this update is a little later than planned but in truth it has taken me a while to adjust back to reality. First of all I’ll start with Dorina who has been great through it all by understanding that I needed to make the trip & being so supportive in the lead up, during & since my return. She even doesn’t appear to have got bored by the 875 photo’s that I took (I’ll try to post a few on our web-site gallery over the next day or so).

Hi Again, Well I think I’m there now & if I’m not I don’t care I’ve done enough to deserve to be! Yesterday went well despite some initial frustrations trying to complete links within my facebook & just giving but thanks to Gaby for her perseverance despite my rising temperature. Final training session was a dash up Siabod yesterday afternoon in brightening skies. Descent was a bit slippery so trotted down carefully, no need to risk an injury at this late stage, legs felt great & foot injury has finally gone so really pleased. Thanks to Julie, Mike & Rob

A quick thank you to John & Marian of ‘Chasing the Light’ for using our cafe to display their excellent Black & White Prints of Snowdonia’s under atmospheric light. Really enjoyed having them on display as part of The Snowdonia Arts Festival & hope to build on this relationship with a potential Himalayan theme once Paul returns from Nepal. John having been out there already will no doubt have some amazing photo’s to share.

Only two days to go, thank god I can’t keep running around with last minute pannicks for much longer. My mind is clearly elsewhere, today alone I forgot the keys to my office in Blaenau & at a Porthmadog cash machine left the cash in the wall as I walked away with just my card, then heard a guy shouting after me as I approached two women who were thinking I must have mugged him only for me to turn round & see him waving my £100 in my face! Well whilst Paul’s focus has understandibly been turning to his trip to Nepal we are still building on the foundations we have made since opening for business in March 2012, this is in more ways than Gaby continuing to add to her range of cakes. Last Sunday we had 9 cakes on offer at the start of the day & by end of play were down to just two slices left (Paul thought about telling Gaby to try harder next time but even he has learnt to bite his tongue once in a while). Not a bad day having gone up & down Snowdon via the Pyg Track in 2 Hrs 20 Mins despite the weather to maintain fitness & within 5 minutes of returning to the cafe a Manager from Plas y Brenin called in to ask us to advertise the fact that Kenton Cool is giving a lecture at Plas y Brenin tomorrow evening between 17:30 & 18:30. O.K. so I’m not actually going to Everest but I won’t be far from it so the timing is just great. Free to attend & will be held in the Main Lecture Room.

The hardest hurdle looks to be overcome as yesterday I did a trial packing of the bags to see if the bags could cope with all of the kit I’ve bought & would they be within the weight limit. Initially it was good & bad news with the bags coping but coming in at 34 Kg, that was 4Kg over the limit. Hard decisions followed, out went half my mini mars bars, a bag of Jelly Babies, a base layer, large towel swapped with a small one (well I won’t be washing much), deodorant (now have to rely on Merino

Well despite the weather forcing a change of plan halfway through Fraser’s & my trip to Glen Shiel preceded by a lot of hobbling & limping in the aftermath of the Half Marathon things are still firmly on track for Sunday’s flight out. In August I attended a 5 Day ML Training Course held by Rob Johnson here in North Wales. I can only say that it made a massive impact on me & my way of appreciating the environment I so often find myself in & my awareness of those around me.
