On Wednesday I followed up Tuesday’s ‘Speed’ session with taking on the 4th marked Trail run in the Coed y Brenin in the shape of ‘The Long Sarn Helen’. At just over 5 miles this was a great mixture of forest tracks & trails with plenty of ups & downs to test both strength & skills. It was a beautiful but cold early morning with several degrees of frost in the valleys as I was taken to areas new to me & bridges I didn’t even know were there. Yet again I missed a marker (I’ll blame the early morning sun in my eyes) but once steps were re-traced a final demanding single track climb was rewarded with a view of the full range of the Rhinogs from North to South. A long final descent was taken at pace (relative of course), what a morning to be out & about!
Blinking an eye it was onto Thursday evening, a trot out from home to join Matt Ward & a small band of enthusiastic runners at the Coed y Brenin centre for their regular Thursday Night run. This was my first time & I was a little apprehensive but for no reason. Matt set us an 11K route that covered sections of the Gold Rush & Half Marathon route as well as other paths which were virgin to me. Head torches blazed & a feeling of exhilaration throughout made for a great hour and a half as various paces were set to allow us all to enjoy ourselves at our own levels. Great run in at the end as I tried but failed to keep Matt & Mark in sight but felt great at the thought that I gave it my best & felt strong.
I urge you to come along & help Matt establish these Thursday runs into ‘what else could you possibly want to do on a Thursday Evening this winter’.
