Paul’s Blog – Betws y Coed Trail Challenge – Posted 10/11/14

This event on Saturday which now has both a 5K & A Canine 10K alongside the traditional 10K is clearly going from strength to strength largely no doubt due to Jane Lloyd & all the team involved in it’s organisation, just it’s second year but clearly a firm fixture & favourite for the years ahead, well done to all involved.

Un-fortunately Well done does not apply to me! Probably a combination of too many miles over recent weeks & a lengthy night in the pub on Friday following the Capel Firework display were my un-doing as I came home some 3 minutes down on last year. Dorina, John & Marion were at the finish, thanks for supporting me as ever, your unusual photograph requests (don’t worry I won’t publish the details) at least drew a smile back on the face of this dis-consulated runner.

My response – Sunday devised a new Speedwork session in the forest opposite the Cafe, several bemused looks from walkers & friends but what do I care when PB’s are at stake, clearly Richard Asquith’s book has not yet diminished that competitive side to my running.

As a whole well over 300 runners took part on Saturday in one race or another, I am sure we all ‘enjoyed’ the hill almost as much as the fast run in to a large cheering crowd.

Penmaenmawr now looms less than 2 weeks away, another ‘failure’ is not an option, no more runs home or pubs between then & now & if you see me in a forest running slow/fast/slow please do not presume madness, this is science you know!
