On a beautiful Saturday afternoon I set off a bit later than planned to have a crack at beating my time set in March last year. The real aim though was to get in a good training session for next weekend’s Welsh 1,000 metre race. The conditions were nigh on perfect, a T shirt sufficed in bright sunshine but a cool breeze & conditions under foot were relatively dry. After hitting Siabod’s summit in 51 minutes I knew I was on for something good, the descent felt great & even the arduos Miner’s track up Glyder Fach seemed less steep than normal as I hit it’s summit in 2:28. Then the foot pains kicked in, hope they are not repeated next week, at least the finish will be uphill (more painful for the legs but less so for the feet, I hope). Despite the pain (unusually for me I ended up with Blisters here & there) the return journey went well but I was more than a little knackered when I got back to the cafe, even Gaby’s Lasagne failed to fill me up. As for the time, last year was 4:53:51, this year 3:53:15, so an hour knocked off, helps confidence for next week. Anyone fancy trying to beat that must be as mad as me but best of luck you’ll deserve it for simply giving it a go.
